Doubt that it will matter to CO or any major airline flying from the US to, say, western Europe.

Wouldn't use the honorific of Imam or Ayatollah or Rabbe if flying to/from the Middle East on, for example, Saudi or ElAl unless it was legit. Maybe not even then.

Would be cautious of using certain undeserved honorifics to/from any place that enforces Lese Majeste laws. Doing so might be construed as an insult to the monarchy and subject you to serious consequences, including jail time.

Wouldn't use military ranks if not deserved as that's just wrong.

But in your case, worse that could happen is that you might be called on to give final rites to a deceased pax and, even then, you can probably glom his pudding cup (or cheese enchilada for those that follow the AA forum ).
