It works if your accounts aren't linked. If you already linked them (which it sounds like you did since you're transferring RDMs between them) then your actual eqm balance is a real-time sum of your UA MP and CO OP eqms
So if MP is my primary program, but I used my OP Platinum number for an itinerary consisting solely of CO flights (for upgrade purposes) my EQMs will post over to my MP account? I have the accounts linked
