I wrote an e-mail to the hotel and said so and also that I would change plans and cancel the booking because of the extra charge. For us the hotel was only two nights sleep while driving from Norway, through Europe, to Italy. We simply changed route and will go to IC Berlin and IC Prague instead. IC Prague has already told me they will not charge for the extra bed, so has IC Frankfurt (which we had to cancel because of the change in plans).

I am not at all suprised that you need to pay for an extra bed. From the hotels perspective it is (a) cost and (b) lost revenue for a second room. It appears to be a US thing to stay with more than two adult people in a room, which is not too common in Europel. However, getting an extra bed into a room, getting it out again and providing for sheets and linens simply costs money. 10 USD will certainly not do the trick. And the IC in a European city known for very expensive hotels is not a HIX in the midwest.
