Melbourne has terrific live theatre -- maybe 2nd best in the world. Some plays now open in London and then Melbourne instead of NYC or Toronto; this puzzled me, until I saw a couple of productions. Great technical work and live orchestra, just like plays were meant to be ... even iconic US plays like Jersey Boys have a superior Australian production (and I've seem a lot of plays). Rather astonishing but part of globalization, I suppose.
