Sunday May 29 - Bad Day with ORD Flights

Sounds like not many of you were traveling yesterday?

I had a few experiences....ORD had a ground stop and ATC in/outbound delays on Sunday, which really goofed things up for travelers. My DCA - ORD flight was delayed 3 hours. Nearly all of the subsequent DCA-ORD flights were canceled for the evening. The plane we were on was loaded with extra fuel due to unknown routing. We ended up getting the most direct routing, but had 2000# too much fuel, so the pilots ran the 'speed brakes' with engines at a good amount of throttle to burn it off. It was awkward to hear so much engine and air noise, but I digress.

The poor folks on AA 89 (BRU-ORD) got diverted to DTW. I was able to get AA455, to get back to LAX, as it was delayed (partly due to AA89 diversion, as that is normally the plane used for 455, but also the replacement had mechanical issues) and it took off 4 hours late at 800PM. The on arrival into ORD showed quite a lot of unsaturated water just south of AA.

Interesting day, and Admiral's Club is a savior in these situations!
