Any in any case, if either the origin or destination are different then it's a cancel and rebook, not a change. So in this case they are correct.
Not my experience, I have changed origin and arrival point when my booking was Z3 to Z1 and the zones unchanged by a totally different routing. The change wasn't the problem, after involving supervisors that is, it was the recalculation of taxes which led to a huge overcharge, eventually resolved, essentially not refunding the original taxes. So it is possible, but be prepared to do battle....
