If I'm in the back of the bus, so to speak i just put under my seat, but in CW or F I have never had to struggle.

And no, I'm not a pretty young thing but a rather 'mumsy' figure the wrong side of 50.

On the assumption your mum's hand-luggage is not bulky and heavy anyway, if she sits down with her bag at her feet it will be sorted.
