RichardMEL, thanks for the reminder about "root". Things like that, and ozstamps' example of "fanny" are the ones we Really have to watch out for!
On a milder note, don't confuse "chock" with "chook" (chicken) or misspell "chook" as "chuck". In the US I think we'd say "upchuck". And I nearly forgot, in Oz, that's also "chunder". (Sorry to be yucky!)
Just curious, do Australians still actually say "Good on you!"? I've certainly seen it used as a Strine cliché, but the only time I ever heard it said for real was about 15 years ago by a rather elderly woman on a cattle station in rural Victoria.
Which brings up "station" = US "ranch"
