Unfortunately, now that EHI has taken over Vanguard - I believe that Hertz implementing the Emerald model won't mean squat to EHI. I think in this case, increased competition won't benefit us Emerald Club loyalists much at all. Except that there may be an exodus to Hertz if it succeeds, which will allow for more choice at National for us.
Some of us are part of an "exodus from Hertz" and I am not sure this change would be enough to bring me back.
I was with Hertz for years and was willing to pay more for service, but then it became "pay more for 'no service' " so I left. Not sure that I would pay more for the pick my own car and still receive poor service. (Not to mention that as bad as the National fleet can be, Hertz's was getting worse. The final straw was a Corolla with 40,000 miles that looked like someone had beat it with a baseball bat and smelled like an ashtray being passed off as an "upgrade" for a Full size reservation
