I don't know the current situation with CX, but BA at YYZ does not allow checking bags more than 3 hours before departure time for Y and 4 hours for F/J; they told me it was an airport restriction due to lack of storage space (which sounds plausible). This was mid-2010 so about a year ago now, but T3 hasn't changed much since then.
