That study uses worthless metrics. What's the value of the "best" award on a LCC -- like $300 tops? They need to weigh the value of awards. I would never be able to pay outright for a longhaul F ticket at the $10-15K it would cost, but I can easily earn enough AAdvantage miles in a year for that redemption.
