I'd apply a caveat. For all AAdvantage members bar Executive Platinum card holders, upgrading on AA is not inexpensive - upgrades from economy to business class are subject to hefty fees and additional government taxes. Purchasing WT+ fares and upgrading with BA Miles is often no more expensive. BA also offers customers opportunities to proactively purchase cash upgrades into the next cabin.
