Baggage Routing Question

I have a flight coming up - routing LEX-DFW-BOS-LHR.

We have a relative that is going through DFW direct to LHR (which was uber expensive at time of booking - became a lot cheaper after ticketing).

We would like to go direct from DFW to LHR on the same flight if possible but want to avoid paying the $200/pax change fee and then the fare difference (Y is full(ish)).

There is availability (7 seats in C (SWU to J)) and we were wondering if when we get to DFW we could switch flights which I know is a possibility using SWUs to get into J.

That leaves the bags - would they route DFW-BOS-LHR or would they be put on a direct flight to London from DFW.

Many times when I have flown through DFW or ORD to LHR my bags have actually flown on an earlier departing aircraft but I am wondering if these would go direct.

Sorry for all the (())s!

Many thanks,
