Welcome to FlyerTalk, misjinks
As others have suggested the AAdvantage programme may offer you an edge over the Executive Club. It is also worth looking into the detail of AA's Platinum Challenge - it might work out beneficial to you, but on the other hand it may not. It really depends on how many flights you are prepared to take within a three month period.
There is a US$ 200 fee to pay up front when you enrol in the challenge. You then have three months to fly 10,000 miles on AA metal (or AA codeshare flights). LHR and BOS are 3265 miles apart. Annoyingly after three one way flights between London and Boston, you'll be 205 miles short but if you add a little creativity to your travel planning you should be able to optimise your outlay. Note: these challenges are only offered once - if you flunk it, you lose your fee.
The Executive Club's strength is in the household account. You and your beloved can both contribute towards building a shared pot of miles - your contribution may come from shuttling back and forth across the pond; your beloved's by converting Tesco Clubcard points or via BA Amex spend. There are so many mileage earning options available to UK members of the EC, infinitely more than the AAdvantage programme offers.
Have fun with the home work and best of luck with your upcoming assignment.
