Yes, but I should clarify a bit more. Let's assume that I am travelling from Los Angeles to London. I can buy a ticket using one fare basis SHXNC47V for LAX-LON. On the other hand, I can purchase a ticket using two fare bases; one being WAG14GS for LAX-NYC and the other being LHXNC38V for NYC-LON. As you see, two different fare bases are combined into one ticket. Why would I do this? Because it is sometimes cheaper to buy like this.
