Guy in wheelchair sleeping at gate, no hotel.

Just talked to a guy at IAD about 20min ago, as he was having breakfast. he's in a wheelchair. Elderly.
He had a food voucher, so I asked him what UA had done to him.
He had flown in on a 13hr flight from Asia. Came in late last night. They canceled his connection to NYC because of a mechanical issue. He was told they wouldn't give him a hotel, even when he asked for it. So this elderly man in his wheelchair with his special blood-pressure-regulating shoes was asked to sleep in the boarding area and wait for the next plane to NYC, which will be leaving around 830am today. 10hrs of "hanging out" and "sleeping" in a wheelchair at IAD. Really, UA, really? What is this? CO?
Come one. Give me one good reason why they can't pay for his hotel.
