LAX temperatures are completely unrepresentative of LA in general. What was the temperature in Pasadena on that day? Probably over 30C, possibly even over 35C.
LA is cool near the coast and gets gradually warmer as you get inland, especially in the valleys. Santa Monica (and LAX) rarely get much above a relatively chilly 70F in the summer. Brentwood, Beverley Hills and West Hollywood (in that order) see the temperature climbing to about 80-85 most days - proper SoCal weather without being too hot if you ask me. A bit further East (downtown, Hollywood, Eagle Rock) it's above 90 and when you get into Pasadena or the San Fernando valley it's often over 100, although incredibly comfortable because of the lack of humidity.
