Usually who do you ask for a status match/challenge? The customer services?

I asked a sales director of a Marriott property I know personally. She asked me how many nights on average I will stay in a week. I said 4 nights, thinking that's a lot of nights and should get me a match/challenge without no problem. But she just replied, well, you will get the status in no time. Probably, she doesn't have the permission to give me the elite status.
