SFO has free wifi throughout, not just in the RCC. Ironically, before the RCC went to free Wi-Fi, you could get the free wi-fi signal in the terminal, but you had to pay/use the card inside the RCC.
Free wi-fi in the terminal is a reasonably new development...and it's TERRIBLE. If I can hold a connection on any device (laptop, iPhone, iPad) for more than 2 minutes, I consider myself lucky. Last Sunday morning, I ended up having to tether to my iPhone for a reliable signal (in SF - consider that for a moment).
