ZAZ is very touristy. Think by the bucketloads although north of the island is a bit better. This also means also you need to be careful about the usual scams (i.e. pay $10 for just being shown something you dont want to see). I was very dissapointed - the new islands which are "up-and-coming" and can be done without breaking the bank completely is either Pemba (although some political unrest although this has eased since the elections) or Mafia.
There isnt very much to do in DAR, it is primarily a trading hub.
