Not neccesarily. As someone who just recovered from a broken foot, part of my recovery process I was pretty much limited to sneakers only. For six weeks I was in one of those big bulky boots, then I was in sneakers for another six weeks with a carbon fiber insert for my injured foot. The doc said I could wear any kind of stiffer soled shoe, but I found any shoe without laces caused extreme discomfort due to the lack of support. Laced dress shoes were ok for short periods, but towards the end of the day those would be quite uncomfortable as well.
