Pre-trip report: expect volcanic eruption!
I am off to Buea, Cameroon on Wednesday. Just got this news in:
"YAOUNDE, Cameroon (Reuters) -- Local authorities in Cameroon were urged on Friday to start evacuating people from the provincial capital of Buea as the Mount Cameroon volcano continued to erupt.
. . . "Buea and the (surrounding) villages have now become a real high risk zone as the lava flow continues to advance and there are no signs of its ending soon."
"The amount of lava emitted from the mountain is some 10 times more than last year's, and every day a series of explosions occur on the mountain indicating that volcanic activity on the mountain is still intense."
. . . the lava flow was getting thicker by the day, crashing at a speed of 20-25 meters per hour through the bush on the flanks of the 4,095 meters (13,435 feet) mountain towards Buea.
This is the seventh eruption in the last 100 years.
