AA can definetly cancel the award ticket while preserving the PNR with the confirmed flights. AA will charge you the $150 to redeposit miles and will then issue the new award. Works well for us NA gateway city people to plan 330 days out for a domestic holiday flight and then add an intl flight much closer to departure.
