Most efficient use of miles to fly BA to London

Hi there

I am a newbie but hope to stick around. Thanks in advance for responding.

I missed out on the 100K BA/Chase card that just expired. I spoke to a Chase rep who said the deal would most likely be back in November and I plan on applying (along with my husband).

I have family in the UK and want to travel there some time next year (can go any time, but thinking around May 2012) with my husband and 2 kids - currently 17 months and 4 months old.

Providing we get approved for the card, I am just trying to figure out the cost of the flights after taxes and what the most efficient way to use the 200K miles is.

I heard that taxes/fees are aprox $500 per ticket. Is that correct? So 4 tickets plus 2 x $95 yearly credit card fee = $2200. This seems steep for supposedly free tickets.

We will be flying from Seattle and can fly into LHR or LGW. I guess we could not get the kids a seat but that would probably be kind of a nightmare. We would prefer direct, but could do a short layover if necessary. Is there any way to do this for less $$?

Many Thanks!
