Haven't read the whole thread, and really don't understand the whole magnitude of the change (didn't get the email, but my daughter did). So an analogy would be like going home and knocking on the door, only to be told by your mother that you can't come in anymore.

I think a better analogy is that you go home, but not to visit your mother, but her neighbour who she doesn't get on with. However, her neighbour isn't in, so you knock on your mother's door instead, but she doesn't let you in.
Had you intended visiting your mother in the first place, you would have been welcomed with open
