Tesco customers vary depending where the shop is; Northampton has two large shops and while one attracts a mix the other seems very downmarket.
Some twenty years ago my local Sainsbury stopped selling felafel and when we complained we were told that shops were graded according to their customer profile. So different goods were available in different shops depending on the A/B/C/D/E socio-economic proportions. I guess Tesco and the other supermarkets do the same; I remember a Waitrose in Hayes (shut for many years now) that was decidedly downmarket with loads of tins and convenience goods so beloved by the lower groups!
