If I could not get an early reset and I have no specific objective with my miles I would indeed start topping up another program. Perhaps even within OW like AA but just to have some other benefits when needed.
In the past few years I've gone for an early reset but this year I'll look to get Star Gold - useful to have options, esp. with CX's F lounge getting ridiculously busy (couldnt get anywhere near the dining room for breakfast a few weeks ago) and Centurion card dilution
