I would not consider myself an UACO apologist. I can see that there are plenty of reasons for 1K, GS to be unhappy about recent changes, but respectfully I dont think this boarding thing is one of them.
The gate lice thing is uniquely UA by the way. It just didnt happen much on CO. (with some hub exceptions

but it was a rarity) After I switched over to UA several years ago I just couldnt get why a bunch of 1Ks would be stacked up 20 minutes before the flight..
As far as I can tell, at least part of it was UAs lack of boarding discipline. I have indeed seen UA GAs call up elites all at once or just "not do" elite boarding, which always irked me, and probably contributed to people hovering around the gate entrance. If they do the boarding CO style with continuity eventually the 1ks/GS that stick around will see this as an improvement.
1- almost every flight Im on I always hear the GA telling those in the RC Lane when they hand thier BP to them sorry its not your turn yet to board, opening the flood gates will mean either a longer time to get on board as more and more people get on line before theyre allowed to board
2- till now it was great knowing I could simply walk up at any time and be the next to board , since the RC goes before the reg line, that will no longer be something that can be relied upon, so when my Inbound is late and I will have to assume my carry-on will be the 1 to be gate checked since most likely the RC will be full rather then empty as its been till now since all those people had to use the reg lane
basically I see it now that if for some reason a person doesnt board when they are called to then they can almost kiss being able to get their carry-on aboard or over their seat
IMO those who arent flying in the Premium cabins or are the likes of a GS,1K,PP,Plat should not beable to use the RC but should be able to board ahead of the masses using the reg lane if for any reason they miss their chance then its to the back of the line for them and no boarding at will, otherwise a Silver is really no different then a 1K
