The ratio is not that bad.

$10000 at Starwood yields me 30,000 Starpoints which is around 37500 miles (1 Starpoint = 1.25 miles).

The same spend at Hyatt yields 65,000 GP points which is around 32500 miles (1 GP point = 0.5 miles).

5000 miles difference. Both ratios assume you transfer in the increments triggering the bonus.

The program with a poor yield to airlines miles is Hilton.

As yosithezet indicated, the miles are needed to get past AA's MM thresholds.
