Its not a bad idea to take some risks atimes
I think you can only do this when you share thesame last name and first 2 letters of the person's first name.
Example: The website will allow you add skymiles number when the names are something like this -
Jonas Johnson and
Jordan Johnson. Dont expect to get miles from the trip, they will only enjoy ELite perks and dats it.
Is it against the Skymiles rules? Yes
Will you get caught? I highly doubt it, but if you are caught, expect a slap on the wrist as a first time offender.
The only scenario that I know someone got flagged by Revenue Protection Unit, was when a friend of mine and his dad travelled on thesame day with thesame SM #. This was his first time ever pulling this stunt. He was flying to DTW-PDX and his dad was flying out PDX-DTW-MCO, all on thesame day. My friend is a PM and so his dad's upgrades cleared. You know some PM/GM's were bitter they missed the upgrade due to Miss Sheena
I believe the system probably flagged the account for review due to an irregular flight pattern, because they were both in the air at thesame time... Revenue protection unit locked the account and miles frozen for about 20+ days and finally sent a letter to my friend alerting him that some illegal activities occured. They warned against sharing his skymiles #, as it could be used for enjoying skymiles benefits without his knowledge. They advised if this behavior
continued in the future, the skymiles elite benefits may be withdrawn.
While the account was locked and in review state, he still enjoyed all DM perks when he flew but couldnt log on to his skymiles account or redeem miles.
Being the daredevil that my friend is, he tried thesame sheena a 2nd time out of curiosity but on a day when he wasnt travelling and it worked like a charm......his dad got upgraded

. It seems this trick will go undetected when the skymiles account is used by only one person in a 24hr period.
I hope the above helps anyone thats considering this in the future.....I am only sharing my friends experience and not advocating this
