Interestingly enough I flew the same route [ORD-LHR] last month in J and there were also 12 empty seats and service was terrible. I found it easier to go all the back to coach and get my drinks. The FA tried to charge me and I gave her my card. She said she would bring the receipt and asked my seat #. When I told her, her eyes just about popped. She decided against charging me and the service suddenly reappeared in J for the remainder of the flight.
