United/Air Canada Code Share - Full Fare bonus on discount fare?

I few FAT-SFO-YVR recently and due to late arrival at SFO, missed my SFO-YVR flight. I was on a discounted fare on United metal. The next flight out was a United codeshare on Air Canada metal. United put me on that next flight. My first indication that something (good) was going on was that the new ticket said "Y" fare. The next indication was when the flight attendant told me my ticket price included a meal. An a week or two later when the miles posted, I got the 150% full Y fare bonus (on miles and points).

Was this just a one time error in the system, or does it happen every time? After all, flying into SFO gives you what, maybe a 50% chance of coming in late and missing a tight connection? Since most of the SFO-YVR connections on United are followed about an hour later with Air Canada metal, it makes connecting through SFO almost a way to get some extra miles.

More to the point, do any other United codeshare airlines do this? For example, if I miss a United connection due to late arrival and the next metal out is US Air, when they put me on US Air, will I get the Y fare 150% bonus even if I'm booked on a discount fare?

Whether it was a one time issue or not, I'm pretty happy about the bonus miles.
