Very good report. For those who run and have a car, drive to the far west end of the airport. Dockweiler (sp?) Beach is never very crowded and has a bike/jog path. It's usually pretty quiet, outside of the incredible roar every few minutes as a jet takes off. Enormous rush.

All planes take off to the west at LAX, except for maybe two days a year (in very rare wind conditions). After 11:30 PM (and before 6am or so) planes also land from the west, so you have the interesting air traffic condition where the "tin" is heading toward each other.
