This is a crazy routing for such a short trip. 10 hours to fly somewhere you can drive in 12?? DL has direct flights from DTW to DSM. Make the 1-1/2 hour drive and still shave hours off your total trip time.
The cost of a one-way cross-border car rental is somewhat extreme compared to even AC rates!
UA and AC both do this in two hops as well, but with the stop in YYZ I not only get to schmooze with the boss's boss but get an extra flight segment too.
did a search myself on Jun 8 and it's available as one-way.
That's about the only day it does come up on in the next month ... it shows up pretty much every day as a rewards flight though, but with UA numbers instead of the AC code-share.
It shows up in the mutli-city tool, of-course, but at a higher price then booking it as a connection.
