Just boarded flight from MSP-BUF. GA announced prior to boarding that if your bag did not fit in the carry on size checker it would be white tagged and claimed at your final destination. When I inquired she said DL instituted the policy yesterday for all flights on CRJ900/700 series aircraft. Gate checks will still be allowed on CRJ200 and Saab flights. She wasn't sure about ERJ flights.
An email from DL would have been nice. A lot of unhappy people in the gate area as they tagged their bags for recovery at baggage claim.
On the flip side, the FAs were taking pre-departure drink orders as you boarded the airplane.

Well....I just went back and read the announcement. I guess the GA was trying to be proactive and get the larger bags "white" tagged before/during boarding. The SOP says that once the overhead bins are full...remaining bags
within the size limit can be Valet ("pink") tagged for return at the destination. Bags that are
outside the size limit will be "white" tagged for pickup at baggage claim at the final destination. Also..oversize bags that are white tagged should have the proper checked bag fee collected.
