My response was to the situation where a passenger fully complies with whatever is asked at the security station but the TSOs see something that needs to be resolved. The TSA folks here say that if they cannot do a patdown you will be asked to leave the area and miss your flight. I am not leaving if I do whatever they ask but they cannot "clear me" (whatever that means).
It would be interesting to see what happens.
