For me what matters most is arrival time. If I can, I like to arrive late night so I can go to the hotel and head straight to bed. Resets my clock right away. Arriving early AM on day +2 instead I find much more difficult. But I suppose that goes hand in hand with your theory since the westbound flights get you to BKK late PM and eastbound via Europe or Middle East gets you there in the morning or early PM.
