Let's not forget that this was a purely hypothetical scenario only to highlight the difference between PIO and OCI in such a bad situation. The reason for this was to seek opinions on what knowledgable people thought about the OCI and PIO and this has helped me make that choice between the two.

For me the choice is clear : PIO as I feel the OCI does tempt with life long visas etc but it carries more potential to complicate matters. Again this is a personal opinion and choice.
well, you are wrong about the police bit....in my line of work i have to deal with the police on a regular basis & in the scenario you put forward they would definitely let you get in touch with the british embassy....the word 'citizen' would have no affect whatsoever....
