Not all airline incidents involve crashing head-on into terrain.
You can ditch into the north sea 20 miles from a rescue vessel and I sure would like to have a working life vest when I am floating around in freezing cold water.
i've seen reports saying statistically you're better off without a life vest.
Obviously if you know how to operate one that's a different story (some people inflate the lifevest IN the plane so they got forced to the cabin ceiling and die). but so far i dont think wearing a life vest would make so much of a difference for you to sustain a crash.
Try get one from a deaed person if you dont have one, or hold on to a dead person. I'm sorry
