Given the difference of only 2,500 points, Point Stretcher is clearly the better deal since 274.76 ZAR = $40 USD
Premium room upgrade award at Hilton Durban is also available, but at outrageous prices. Here are the sample prices for June 2011
Standard room = 15,000 points
Point Stretcher or $350 USD (2,450 ZAR) / Night
Deluxe room = 125,712 points or $413 USD (2,900 ZAR) / Night
Executive room = 132,214 points or $437 USD (3,050 ZAR) / Night
Deluxe Plus room = 192,903 points or $634 USD (4,450 ZAR) / Night
Executive Suite = 279,601 points or $920 USD (6,450 ZAR) / Night
Terrace Suite = 312,112 points or $1,026 USD (7,200 ZAR) / Night
Presidential Suite = 518,020 points or $1,703 USD (11,950 ZAR) / Night
On dates when room rates are lower, the Premium Rooms' points also drop as well. It seems as though the amount of points required for Premium Room and Suites are linked to the published rates at this hotel. Anyone with a calculator can figure out the points to cash conversion ratio based on the info posted above.
