How would I do this:

I am a 1K on UA that matched to CO Plat. I have two reservations this summer, both booked on CO.com, and both a mixture of UA/CO flights. The first question:

I have EWR-IAH -HNL (CO Metal)-ORD-LAX-OGG-SFO-SEA all on UA metal, CO codeshares. To best maximize upgrade changes on the EWR-IAH, I should have my plat number, correct? I am waitlisted for upgrade to BE on the IAH-HNL using miles, I assume my chances are better if my CO Plat number is there as well, right? After those two flights, can I switch all the remaining ones (UA flights) to my 1K# to increase chance of upgrade? Or, should I just leave my 1K number on the whole itin to maximize my chance of clearing the majoirty of the UA flights at my upgrade window?

Help! I'm confused what to do. How would you do it?
