Back on topic, and as the above relates to it... Delta shouldn't be forced to provide special meals, as you suggested. They should be smart enough to provide them in a manner that will aid their bottom line (be that free, not at all, by charging, or whatever they find works best), and this in turn will serve the consumer (as a whole, not special-interest ones, necessarily) the best as well.
I bet if Delta did this, someone would still find a reason to say Delta was incompetent/malicious/discriminatory/greedy/evil and
demand Richard Anderson post a personal apology to them on FlyerTalk.
