My first name has a hyphen, and I've been fighting these battles my whole life, with AS, AA and UA at different times in history. I've never found a workaround to any of them, and never found anyone interested in pushing a fix. Frankly, when it comes to airline IT systems, if it isn't actively burning down it's at the bottom of the priority list.
