Advice on Chicago transfer from BA at T5 to AA at T3

Hi,

Now that the strike threat seems to have gone my next worry is terminal transfer at ORD.

Wife and I arrive on BA0297 at ORD's Terminal 5 and have 2 hours to get to a connecting AA flight to San Diego leaving from Terminal 3.

The BA site states

"Clear immigration and customs on the lower level.
Re-check your baggage at the re-check area beyond customs".

Can any of you kind folk that have done this transfer confirm my thinking that we recheck our bags in with AA while we are still in Terminal 5 and then get the shuttle train to Terminal 3.

Or do we have to lug the cases to Terminal 3 before rechecking them?

My reading of the BA site does suggest that an AA bag check will be there when we clear Terminal 5 customs, but I thought I would ask for any first hand experiences on here

Thanks for reading & any advice offered
