Question -- I never fly AA. I'm Gold with another carrier. But I'm heading to the caribbean for a wedding where my guys don't fly. And I'd like to not pay for it.

If I register for the AA card, I get 30k points if I spend $1k in 4 (or 6) months.

My question is....do I get the 30k points the billing cycle after I ring up 1k spend? Or do the miles hit at the end of the promo period (meaning 4-6 months from now).

The difference is a big deal to me as the wedding is 5 months from now.

Was thinking of opening a card in my name and my spouse's for this.

Insight is appreciated.
