I believe you are limited to two (maybe three?) transactions per credit card per day at the MetroCard Vending Machine and it is one transaction (one card) at a time.

You can also purchase MetroCards from station booths (they sell all types of MetroCards now); it is cash only and $50 bills accepted on purchases of $30 or more; $100 bills accepted on purchases of $70 or more.
