I tried to have mine LASIK Wavefronted by Optical Express about 18 months ago..... I thought that with a prescription of -10 in both eyes I wouldn't be suitable - but at the consultation I was told it COULD be done - but only at a price (of course!) - which turned out to be £1700 per eye.

As as been pointed out above - the price per eye you see on the posters following the very small word "from" is only for those who don't actually NEED the procedure.......

However, when i showed up for surgery, they did the final check which involved creating the "map" the laser would follow, and having left me sitting for over 2 hrs... I was told that this had revealed a problem with my weaker eye. Basically I had a "dimple" in my cornea just at the point where the laser needed to cut the deepest, and if they went ahead - this would render my eye very unstable - to the point that if I were hit on the head, or in a car accident - the surface of the eye could give way - so they weren't prepared to do it.

I asked if they could just laser enough to bring my prescription down to a more manageable level but that apparently wan't an option.

However, I was offered an intra ocular lens where a contact lens is inserted into the eye to sit over the lens and correct vision from within, and because of that - I could then have the laser treatment done at a later date if I needed it. This procedure was the same price as the wavefront would have been!

The operations lasted about 15-30 minutes each under local anaesthetic, and I didn't feel (or see!) a thing. As I was wheeled out - I could see that it had worked - before they put the protective pad on....

There was a bit of discomfort the first night, and having to wear the protective shield every night for a week was a bit of a pain - as was having to put in eyedrops 4 times a day, but 18 months on - I have no regrets and am enjoying being spec free for the first time in over 45 years. cannot recommend the treatment and aftercare I received at their centres in Harley St and Westfields highly enough.

And on the subject of Moorfields...... my sister was taken there with a detached retina in her right eye...... the surgeon who reattached it ballsed up the operation and she is now all but blind (can only distinguish light and dark!) in that eye, despite a consultant being called after the problem arose and a subsequent operation to try and correct it.
