With a cancelled flight, I believe they will book you into an class for CW from JFK-LHR. It does not have to be a miles seat.

Had the same over New Year. Choose JFK-LCY on miles as all the leisure pax has taken JFK-LHR redemption seats. When they cancelled the JFK-LCY flights for Jan 3, I changed to JFK-LHR even though there were no redemption seats left.
