I assume they have the "baggage claim" version of the Easy Check-In kiosks at IAD. I always check those ASAP at airports where they're available, if for no other reason than they tend to be more accurate about the belt number than the PA announcement given by the GA who meets the flight. But they'll also give you an early heads-up if your bag has been waylaid.
Agree, although they are not always functioning
. I think they are great when they are working and available. I hate waiting an hour only to find the bag isn't there, anyway.
