I am a NW GOLD member and one of the benefits is a free year in the National Emerald Club--after the first year it is $50/per year.

My questions to those who use it--is it worth $50 a year? What exactly are the benefits? Do reservations have to be made directly through National or can they be made via Expedia and still qualify as an Emerald reservation? Does National offer you special rates/upgrades as an Emerald member?

Any info is much appreciated.
